Electrical Meter Repairs and Inspections-Chicago Suburbs

Roselle Electrical Services Inc.
847-605-0300 or 630-893-9500

WHAT A SUMMER. Record heat, record electrical usage and record electrical problems. We have experienced several major issues with older underground services that we wish to pass along to you. During this extreme heat and drought, the ground around your house may settle. In some instances it can settle as much as 2 to 6 inches! This settling may not be immediately evident on the surface but underground from 24 to 36 inches deep where your electric lines are located, this settling can pull on the wires, pulling on them downward inside your meter socket. The problem is the service lines can be pulled to such an extent that they cause a short circuit inside the meter box. This short circuit can and usually does result in an immediate electrical flash and fire until either the wiring burns through or the transformer shuts down. In most cases the short can last up to several minutes sparking a quick spreading fire on the outside wall of your home where the meter socket is located.
